The fire prevention division has two functions: public education and regular safety inspections. The most important goal of the department is teaching and explaining fire safety to the public. The ultimate goal is to have everyone make fire safety part of his or her day-to-day routine. The second function of the department is to reduce fires through inspections, planning reviews and to make sure all buildings are in compliance with the Ontario fire code.

There are two full time Fire Prevention Professionals.

The department is run under the direction of Fire Prevention Officer, Greg Nicol. He reaches out to the citizens of this community through various programs and related information, education and training. His staff's specialty is talking directly to the residents of the community through short speaking engagements, displays at community functions plus visits to local schools, seniors apartments, day care facilities, local industries and homes for the aged.

The department is also available to supply valuable information on smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers.
